OC-071 Biomechanical Causes for Failure of The Physiomesh/Securestrap System. Experimental study

Abstract Introduction Physiomesh/Securestrap system entered market in 2013 and despite its producer assurence it become a spectacular disaster, eliminating Ethicon from resulting multi-milion dollar lawsuits. The biological reasons for faileure of the Physiomesh implant were partly explained animal models. However conlusions suggested that apart components failure was mainly due to biomechanical factors. Aim Based on above assumptions we assembled multidisciplinary team examine system. Material Methods Three kinds experiments performed with use porcine model conclude natural conditions: uni-axial test mesh samples, determination mesh-tissue junction force limit mesh-staples-tissue behaviour under high “intra-abdominal” pressure load.
